I quite enjoy perusing it and sometimes find it helpful for myself (as a woman). :) "...In this day and age of equality of the sexes, the polite way to interact with women can be confusing. You know you are required to recognize that the fine ladies who surround you have fully functioning mental capacities and that they deserve respect. Unfortunately, the sentiment that women are equal to men can easily -- and mistakenly -- be interpreted to mean that you have to treat your girlfriend like a dude. She may be as capable as a man, but she is, in fact, a lady.In such a confused world, a little old-fashioned chivalry can go a long way to make a girl feel special. ..."
Here is a summary of some of the behaviors that I enjoy seeing from my fella, and the corresponding article links:
Bear the weather - If the weather is cool, and especially if it‘s obvious that she‘s cold, offer your jacket.
Walk on the outside of the sidewalk - When walking with her, take the side closest to the street. This tradition is a lesser-known and rarely followed form of chivalry, and as such, it might be even more appreciated by a discerning female.
Pick her up - Unlike offering to drive a girl home, picking her up doesn’t imply surreptitious intentions. In other words, she won’t think that you’re trying to get in her house and into her pants.
Hold the door - As a general rule, it is polite and gentlemanly to hold the door for anybody who is following you closely, especially the elderly.
Introduce her to people - Even if you just run into an acquaintance on the street, introduce her.
Give her your arm - When escorting a lady (that you know) to and from social events, you should offer her your arm.
At the table, turn off your phone - It is consistently amazing just how many men will interrupt their date in order to take a phone call.
Always carry a woman's packages - Let's face it; today's women would probably shoot you a puzzled fleeting look, so at least offer to do so. This lets her know you respect her and are courteous enough to inquire as to her comfort.
Believe it or not, these actions really do encourage me to be more like a lady. And these are the sorts of interactions that I really enjoy seeing between other people when I am people watching.
